The cosmetic industry has always struggled to accommodate all the beautiful skin complexions of humans on earth. According to Glamour Magazine; “More than 80% of women say finding a matching color is a challenge”. The same issues persist in finding the right lotions, serums, and other cosmetics to meet everyone’s unique skin needs. The traditional industry can simply not serve all.

Introducing Uhue - a firstofits-kind, at-home custom cosmetic creation device. Uhue is the ultimate solution for your day-to-day skin needs. Using a series of eight cartridges and advanced technology, a user can create a wide range of different cosmetics from the comfort of their own home. Uhue puts the power of a dedicated cosmetic factory at your fingertips and on your countertop.

Cartridges:

One of the biggest challenges in developing the Uhue device was the design of its interchangeable cartridge system. The cartridges had to be capable of dispensing micro amounts of high-viscosity ingredients with great accuracy. They had to work with a range of ingredients and colorants to create any skin tone, accent color, coverage, shimmer, finish, and effect.

We are living in a world of technology and connectivity. In using the Uhue mobile app it will allow users to upload, share, and build their beauty community helping each other to find the perfect match or trending color. Come hang out where makeup lovers share ideas and looks and inspire confidence, creativity, and love.

Device:

Fitting all this technology into one beautiful and compact package was no easy task. Using a dedicated touch display on top allows users to create, recall, save, and wirelessly send their formulas back and forth to the mobile app. Lift up the lid and the user can access the cartridge bay containing all eight cartridges neatly arranged as if within a jewel box. The convenient mirror inside can be used as a close up vanity, too. Replacing the cartridges is a breeze with the ejection system that quickly pops the used cartridges in need of replacing. Since lighting is so important to inspect the true colors of cosmetics, we’ve also included adjustable LEDs in the dispensing area to watch as your creation comes to life.

Cooperation with Wenext

Developing the Uhue system required high quality parts, with great surface finish, and high precision down to the microns. By working with Wenext Unbox was able to identify the best materials and processes for each individual component. Parts not only needed to assemble with great accuracy, but they also needed to move and function with reliability and durability. The team at Wenext has been incredibly helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to rapid prototyping. Using materials such as Somos® LEDO has allowed Unbox to make crystal-clear parts ideal for evaluating the inner workings of mechanisms. Standard resin provided good surface detail for high precision parts ideal for fit and assembly testing. The Wenext resources have allowed Unbox to increase efficiency in prototyping while reducing or eliminating early stage prototype mold costs.
